INVENTARISASI RAYAP YANG DITEMUKAN PADA PERKEBUNAN KELAPA SAWIT (ELAEIS GUINEENSIS JACQ.) DI KABUPATEN BANYUASIN, OGAN ILIR, DAN OGAN KOMERING ILIR
Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is a rapidly growing plant that plays an important role in the socio-economic life of communities in Indonesia. Oil palm plantations are often attacked by pests and diseases that cause damage. One of the insects found in oil palm plantations is termites. The purpose of this study was to identify and classify termite species found in oil palm plantations (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) in Banyuasin, Ogan Ilir, and Ogan Komering Ilir districts, South Sumatra, and to determine their ecological role as pests or decomposers. The benefits of this research are expected to provide information regarding the types of termite species found in oil palm plantations. The methods used in this research are direct observation and purposive sampling. The results of the study show that the termite nests found have varied shapes in oil palm plantations. Some termites formed nests in the branches, at the base of the trunk, and in the trunk of the palm tree. Three genus of termites were found in oil palm plantations in Banyuasin, Ogan Ilir, and Ogan Komering Ilir districts, namely Macrotermes, Pericapritermes, Termes. The termite genus found in oil palm trunks are Macrotermes and Pericapritermes. The termite genus found in branches was Termes. Meanwhile, the termite found at the base of the trunk is Macrotermes. Some act as pests and some act as decomposers.
