PENAMBAHAN EKSTRAK RUMPUT LAUT Sargassum sp. DENGAN KONSENTRASI BERBEDA PADA PEMBUATAN BODY LOTION
Sargassum sp. can be used in the production of cosmetic products such as body lotion because it contains secondary metabolites that function as antioxidants and tyrosinase inhibitors. This study aims to determine the effect of adding Sargassum sp. seaweed extract on the physical and chemical properties and antioxidant activity of body lotion. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with treatments varying in the addition of Sargassum sp. seaweed extract with 4 treatment levels: P0 (without Sargassum sp. extract), P1(2.5% extract), P2(5% extract), P3 (7.5% extract), and was repeated twice. The test parameters observed included organoleptic evaluation of Sargassum sp. extract body lotion, homogeneity, spreadability, viscosity, pH measurement, physical stability test, DPPH antioxidant activity test, and analysis of DPPH free radical scavenging percentage. The results showed that the addition of Sargassum sp. extract at different concentrations had a significant effect on the physical properties of the body lotion, such as viscosity, spreadability, and organoleptic properties, but had no significant effect on the pH and physical stability of the body lotion. The addition of Sargassum sp. extract also had a significant effect on the antioxidant activity produced. A concentration of 5%, Sargassum sp. extract was the best treatment with an optimal production, producing high antioxidant activity and desirable organoleptic results
