UJI ANTAGONIS JAMUR ENDOFIT ASAL TANAMAN TERONG TERHADAP FUSARIUM OXYSPORUM PATOGEN PADA TERONG.

Rosalia, Putri - Personal Name;

Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) has high economic value because it can grow in tropical and subtropical climates and is an important horticultural commodity in Indonesia. Eggplant contains various nutrients and is capable of producing beneficial secondary metabolites, but its productivity often declines due to the soil-borne pathogen Fusarium oxysporum. The Fusarium oxysporum pathogen causes wilting in all parts of the eggplant plant by attacking the roots and xylem, disrupting the transport of water and nutrients. Fusarium oxysporum can survive in the soil as chlamydospores, making it difficult to control through crop rotation or other conventional methods. Until now, disease control has largely relied on chemical pesticides, which pose a significant risk to the environment. Therefore, the use of endophytic fungi is an environmentally friendly alternative for control. This study aims to explore endophytic fungi from parts of eggplant plants and test the effectiveness of endophytic fungi in inhibiting the growth of the Fusarium oxysporum pathogen that causes wilt disease in eggplant plants. This study will be conducted from June to November 2025 using exploration and antagonistic testing methods. The results of endophytic fungal isolation in eggplant plants yielded five isolates from three genera, namely two species from the genus Aspergillus sp., Nigrospora sp., Penicillium sp., and one unidentified fungal isolate. In the antagonistic test results, five endophytic fungal isolates showed antagonistic ability against pathogens, with Penicillium sp. (P5) being the most effective isolate because it was able to produce the highest inhibition, lowest spore density, and smallest dry weight of mycelium. Aspergillus sp. had moderate effectiveness, while Nigrospora sp. and the unidentified isolate were still able to suppress pathogen growth, albeit with lower inhibition levels. Overall, all isolates have potential as biological agents against Fusarium oxysporum.
