IDENTIFIKASI CEMARAN MIKROPLASTIK PADA SEDIMEN DAN BIOTA DI PERAIRAN SUNGAI MUSI WILAYAH DESA BAILANGU KECAMATAN SEKAYU KABUPATEN MUSI BANYUASIN

Wahyuni, Inda - Personal Name;

Microplastic pollution in aquatic environments has become a global environmental issue that affects ecosystems and human health. This study aims to identify the physical characteristics of microplastics based on shape, size, and color in sediments and biota (fish) in the Musi River waters in Bailangu Village, Sekayu District, Musi Banyuasin Regency. Sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling method at three points based on the potential of anthropogenic activities. Microplastic analysis was carried out through filtration, oxidation, and visual identification using a trinocular microscope. The results showed that eight microplastic particles were found in the sediment samples, dominated by fibers and foams (three particles each) and fragments (two particles), with sizes ranging from 303.26 to 1175.29 µm and a dominant brown color. Meanwhile, nine particles were found in fish samples, consisting of fibers (6 particles), fragments (2 particles), and foam (1 particle), with sizes ranging from 328.16 to 961.03 µm, also dominated by the brown color. The similarity in microplastic characteristics between sediments and biota indicates a potential transfer of plastic particles from the environment to aquatic organisms. These findings emphasize the need for plastic waste management and routine monitoring of microplastic contamination in the Musi River.
