PENGARUH TINGKAT PEMAHAMAN PETANI KUBIS (Brassica oleracea L.) MENGENAI PESTISIDA DAN KEPATUHANNYA DALAM APLIKASI TERHADAP HAMA DAN PENYAKIT DI SUMATERA SELATAN
Cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.) is one of the vegetables that is frequently attacked by pests and diseases. One of the control measures applied is the use of pesticides. Improper use of pesticides on vegetable and fruit crops to control pests and diseases can have harmful effects on infants, children, and adults. This study aims to evaluate farmers’ knowledge and compliance in using pesticides, particularly for controlling pests and diseases in cabbage plants, and to examine the relationship between farmers’ knowledge and compliance scores in South Sumatra Province. This study used interviews with a questionnaire, involving 30 cabbage farmers as respondents. The results of the interviews showed that the farmers were in the productive age range (44–52 years), with the majority having a high school education and cultivating land of 0.25–0.5 ha. The average scores for farmers’ knowledge and compliance were 80 and 79, respectively, falling into the “knowledgeable” and “compliant” categories. The highest pest attack intensity was 51.33%, categorized as severe. The highest disease attack intensity was 91.5%. The correlation between knowledge and compliance scores and pest attack intensity were -0.14 and -0.28, respectively. Meanwhile, the correlation between knowledge and compliance scores and disease attack intensity were -0.3 and -0.33, respectively. The negative correlation indicates that higher knowledge and compliance scores among farmers are associated with a decrease in pest and disease attack intensity.
