SMART IRRIGATION SYSTEM UNTUK SAWAH MENGGUNAKAN ALTERNATE WETTING AND DRYING (AWD) DENGAN TELEKOMUNIKASI GELOMBANG RADIO DAN FIBER OPTIK
A smart irrigation system was developed using dual telecommunication methods, namely radio wave and fiber optic communication, and integrated with the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) method. A WNK8010 hydrostatic pressure sensor was employed to measure water level, achieving an average measurement error of 0.735%. The system was designed to assist farmers in monitoring paddy field irrigation through WhatsApp notifications. System evaluation consisted of laboratory testing for both communication methods and field testing limited to the radio wave–based system. Laboratory results demonstrated that the system automatically opened the water valve when the water level was below 30 cm, closed the valve at 30 cm, and transmitted a notification when the water level exceeded 30 cm. The radio wave communication exhibited a 3 seconds delay during valve activation with no delay in message delivery, whereas the fiber optic communication experienced an 8 seconds delay due to the use of preamble and end marker sequences prior to receiver action. Field testing confirmed that the radio wave–based system operated reliably by successfully notifying farmers to drain excess water.
