ANALISIS FAKTOR-FAKTOR MEMUDARNYA TRADISI BEGAREHAN DALAM ADAT ISTIADAT PERNIKAHAN DI DESA LAWANG AGUNG LAMA LAHAT SUMATERA SELATAN

This study aims to examine the factors contributing to the decline of the Begarehan tradition in the marriage customs of Lawang Agung Lama Village, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra. Previously, the Begarehan tradition functioned as a medium for social interaction, the distribution of social roles, and the strengthening of communal cooperation. However, along with changes in social life, its practice has gradually shifted and diminished. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Informants were selected through purposive sampling, involving traditional leaders, community members, and the younger generation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and continuous conclusion drawing, with data validity strengthened through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that the decline of the Begarehan tradition is influenced by changes in community life patterns, shifts in social roles particularly the decreasing involvement of youth the weakening of collective roles within families and communities, and the influence of modernization that encourages more practical approaches to wedding practices.
