GREEN SYNTHESIS KITOSAN-PVA/Ag-CeO2 MENGGUNAKAN EKSTRAK DAUN MENGKUDU (Morinda citrifolia L.) UNTUK PENURUNAN KONSENTRASI KRISTAL VIOLET DAN UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI
Crystal Violet Dye (CVD) is a toxic and persistent cationic dye that poses environmental risks. This study developed a Chitosan-PVA/Ag-CeO₂ composite via an environmentally friendly green synthesis using noni leaf extract (Morinda citrifolia L.). The composite was synthesized by coprecipitation, with chitosan and PVA as biopolymer matrices, Ag as a dopant to enhance photocatalytic and antibacterial activity, and CeO₂ as the main semiconductor. Characterization using XRD, FTIR, SEM-EDS, and UV-Vis DRS confirmed the successful formation and homogeneous dispersion of Ag-CeO₂ within the polymer matrix, with a bandgap of 1.59 eV. The composite showed excellent photocatalytic performance toward CVD degradation, achieving 96.37% removal and 84.26% DOC reduction under optimum conditions (pH 8, 33 mg/L, 145 min), indicating effective mineralization. Antibacterial tests revealed strong inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, with inhibition zones of 14 mm and 14.8 mm at 5000 ppm. These results demonstrate the potential of the Chitosan-PVA/Ag-CeO₂ composite as an eco-friendly photocatalyst and antibacterial agent for hazardous wastewater treatment.
