KONSTRUKSI IDENTITAS DIRI VIRTUAL MELALUI GAME ROBLOX (STUDI PADA ANGGOTA KOMUNITAS MAHASISWA ROBLOX UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA)
In the digital era, personal identity is not only formed in the real world but also constructed through the virtual world. This condition occurs due to the increasingly close relationship between human life and social media, which subsequently leads to a growing number of online interactions. This study aimed to examine the process of virtual identity construction through digital media, particularly 3D platforms such as Roblox. Roblox was selected because it provided various features that supported the formation of virtual self-identity. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The data were collected through interviews with five informants who were members of the Roblox Student Community at Sriwijaya University, as well as through observation and literature review. The construction of virtual identity in this study was analyzed using George Herbert Mead's Symbolic Interactionism Theory, which consisted of three main concepts: mind, self, and society. The findings indicated that virtual identity was highly fluid in nature. Virtual identity was formed through internal considerations, social environmental influences, and individual experiences. Furthermore, virtual identity in Roblox was expressed through the selection of visual avatar elements and usernames, which could change according to interaction contexts, types of games, and individual preferences at certain times. Virtual identity was also used as a modification of real-world identity. The informants maintained the self-image they intended to present, allowing their virtual identities to develop continuously without losing their core meaning.
