ANALISIS INDEKS KEKERINGAN DAN KAITANNYA DENGAN IKLIM BERDASARKAN DATA PENGINDERAAN JAUH DI KHG SUNGAI SIBUMBUNG - SUNGAI TALANGRIMBA

Niati, Bella Suci - Personal Name;

South Sumatra province is a province that frequently experiences peatland fires. This study analyzed the spatial and temporal patterns of drought in the Peat Hydrological Unit (KHG) of Sibumbung River – Talangrimba River during the 2010–2023 period using the Standardized Drought Condition Index (SDCI), and its relationship with global climate phenomena. The analysis was conducted on an annual basis to categorize drought levels as extreme, severe, moderate, mild, or no drought. Landsat 7, Landsat 8, and MODIS satellite data were used to calculate the drought index. The results suggested that the SDCI index showed more significant drought conditions in 2015 and 2023 in the eastern and southern regions of KHG, while the TVDI index in 2014, 2015, 2019, and 2023 in the eastern and southern regions. These events coincided with the active phase of El Niño and a very strong positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD+). Temporally, 2019 experienced the most extensive extreme drought according to the SDCI index with an area of 128.52 ha. The TVDI index showed the most significant extreme drought in 2023 with an area of 5,908.7 ha. Overall, drought patterns in this region were significantly influenced by global climate variability, particularly ENSO and IOD, which affect rainfall patterns and vegetation conditions. The results of this study can be a basis for drought mitigation efforts and support more adaptive peatland management in response to climate change.
