SKRINING REFUGIA YANG BERPOTENSI SEBAGAI ATRAKTAN UNTUK Eocanthecona furcellata (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), PREDATOR SERANGGA HAMA KELAPA SAWIT
Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) was a perennial crop that contributed to economic value however, attacks by the nettle caterpillar (Setothosea asigna) caused a reduction in yield. This study aimed to control the pest by utilizing its natural enemy, the Eocanthecona furcellata, and by using refugia plants as attractants for the predator. The experiment used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of three stages. The first stage prepared 20 refugia species with wet cotton as a comparison. The second stage compared the five best plant species between their flowers and leaves, and the third stage compared the selected species based on the results of the second screening. Each test was carried out with five replications, and each replication contained five E. furcellata individuals. The results of the three screenings showed ten plant species L. urticoides, A. leptopus, T. subulata, C. bartramia, T. procumbens, T. erecta, T. ulmifolia, H. indicum, W. antidysenterica, and C. ternatea that differed significantly. Among them, five species were preferred and five were not preferred. The five most preferred and significantly different refugia plants were A. leptopus, T. subulata, L. camara, C. hirta, and T. procumbens. The second screening indicated that the most preferred plant part was the leaf, with A. leptopus and T. subulata showing significant differences. The third screening revealed that the best and most preferred refugia plant was A. leptopus. The finally refugia plant most selected by E. furcellata was A. leptopus. Recommendation A. leptopus should be planted around oil palm vegetation to attract the predator E. furcellata and support biological control of the nettle caterpillar.
