HUBUNGAN ASUPAN SERAT DAN CAIRAN TERHADAP KEJADIAN OBESITAS PADA MAHASISWA S1 TINGKAT AKHIR UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA
Obesity is a health problem that is increasingly prevalent among the productive-age population, including university students. This condition is often influenced by low dietary fiber intake and inadequate fluid consumption, which, if not addressed, may increase the risk of metabolic diseases. This study aimed to determine the relationship between fiber and fluid intake and the incidence of obesity based on Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) among final-year undergraduate students at Universitas Sriwijaya. A cross-sectional design was applied to 105 respondents selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected through a characteristics questionnaire, 3×24-hour food recall, and anthropometric measurements. The results showed that most respondents had insufficient fiber intake (61.9%) and inadequate fluid intake (80%), accompanied by a relatively high prevalence of obesity based on BMI and WHR. Statistical analysis indicated a significant association between fiber intake, fluid intake, and fluid intake from packaged beverages with the incidence of obesity (p-value < 0.05). Therefore, students are encouraged to increase their consumption of fruits, vegetables, and other fiber sources, as well as to maintain adequate daily fluid intake.
