PENGARUH EKSTRAK ETIL ASETAT DAUN UBI JALAR UNGU (Ipomoea batatas L.) TERHADAP KADAR MDA PADA TIKUS MODEL STRES OKSIDATIF

Abdullah, Nour Ilyah - Personal Name;

Free radicals are molecules with unpaired electrons that can cause tissue damage through oxidative stress, accelerate aging, and trigger various diseases, including cancer. Antioxidants play an important role in warding off free radicals. Purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas L.) are known to contain active compounds such as polyphenols, flavonoids, tannins and triterpenoids which have high antioxidant activity. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant power of ethyl acetate extract of purple sweet potato leaves in reducing malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in male Rattus norvegicus induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄). The extraction process for purple sweet potato leaves uses the maceration method with ethyl acetate solvent because ethyl acetate is a semi-polar solvent. Phytochemical tests show the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and triterpenoids in the extract. Rats were divided into six groups with a variety of treatments including normal, negative control (CCl₄), positive control (Vitamin C), and three treatment groups with extract doses (250, 500, and 750 mg/kgBW). MDA levels were measured using the ELISA method. The results showed that ethyl acetate extract significantly reduced MDA levels in rats induced by CCl₄, with a better effect at a dose of 750 mg/kgBW. This indicates that purple sweet potato leaves have the potential as a natural antioxidant agent that can be developed to ward off oxidative stress and tissue damage caused by free radicals
