REPRESENTASI TOXIC MASCULINITY PADA TOKOH YORI DALAM FILM MONSTER: KAJIAN SEMIOTIKA ROLAND BARTHES
This research was conducted to discuss toxic masculinity, which initially departs from gender issues that are often shown through film media, often the impression of masculinity is accidentally present without realizing it. However, the author examines how toxic masculinity can be present in the movie "Monster", using a qualitative research method that is studied with Roland Barthes' semiotic approach with two stages, namely denotation and connotation and connected to myth. In this film, Yori's character will be analyzed in terms of images, actions, and narratives used to illustrate his gender identity. The research data was collected through movie content analysis. From the data findings, researchers found as many as 10 (ten) scenes that show toxic masculinity carried out by people around Yori in this film. The results showed that the movie "Monster" has gender issues, namely homosexuality in the diversity of characters in it. This is interesting because masculinity itself has both positive and negative effects depending on the reading done. Keywords: semiotics, representation, homosexuality, toxic masculinity, film.
