ANALISIS PROSES ADAPTASI MAHASISWA PAPUA TERHADAP BUDAYA LOKAL DI LINGKUNGAN KAMPUS UNIVERSITAS SRIWIJAYA
This study aims to analyze the adaptation process of Papuan students to new local culture in the social environment of Sriwijaya University. This research employs a qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The participants consist of five Papuan students and one supporting informant (membercheck). The findings reveal two types of adaptation: autoplastic and alloplastic adaptation. In autoplastic adaptation, students adjust to the new environment through language use, food adaptation, local customs, social habits, climate, and campus technology. The main challenges include differences in staple foods, language barriers, climate changes, and limited technological skills. In alloplastic adaptation, students actively engage in cross- cultural communication, introduce Papuan culture, participate in multicultural campus activities, and achieve positive social acceptance from local students. Overall, the adaptation process occurs gradually and is strongly supported by the campus environment and harmonious social interactions.
