ABSTRACT SOCIAL SUPPORT IN OVERCOMING SOCIAL ALIENATION STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF SOCIAL AND POLITICAL SCIENCES PALEMBANG CAMPUS, CLASS OF 2025 SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY Social isolation is becoming an increasingly common condition experienced by students, especially during the early stages of college, which require social, academic, and cultural adjustment skills. This study aims to examine the causes of social isolation, forms of social support, and obstacles faced by students in obtaining social support at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Sriwijaya University, Palembang Campus, class of 2025. This study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of students experiencing social alienation, students providing support, and key informants who understand the social conditions on campus. The data were analyzed thematically using James S. House's social support theoretical framework, which includes emotional, instrumental, informational, and evaluative support. The results of the study indicate that student social isolation is caused by difficulties in adapting, limitations in building social relationships, and differences in social and cultural backgrounds. Social support plays an important role in helping to reduce feelings of isolation, especially through emotional and informational support. However, the implementation of social support has not been optimal because it is still influenced by low student self-confidence, closed friendship patterns, and a lack of concern from peers. This study is expected to enrich the study of educational sociology and serve as material for consideration by universities in formulating more inclusive policies that are sensitive to the psychosocial needs of students. Keywords: social isolation, social support, students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Sriwijaya University.
