PEMANFAATAN Melastoma malabathricum DAN CANGKANG TELUR SEBAGAI PUPUK ORGANIK DAN PESTISIDA NABATI PADA BUDIDAYA POLIKULTUR

Putra, Gihandra Khaidar Amika - Personal Name;

Polyculture can increase land resource utilization and reduce the risk of crop failure in a single planting area. Polyculture of maize and shallots can maximize light, water, and nutrients while minimizing their use and increasing land productivity. Melastoma malabathricum and eggshells are thought to be able to fulfill the nutrient requirements of maize and shallots because their high Ca and N content can be used as organic fertilizer and pesticide. This study aims to determine the effect of organic briquette fertilizer and plant-based pesticides made from Melastoma malabathricum and eggshells. The study was conducted from July to October 2025 using a split-plot factorial design consisting of two treatment factors: organic fertilizer and plant-based pesticides. Growth parameters, including plant height, number of leaves, and stem diameter, were observed over 12 weeks. The results showed that briquette fertilizer, botanical pesticides, and their interaction tended to have no significant effect on all growth parameters. The M2P1 (100 g + 5%) and M2P2 (200 g + 10%) treatments showed relatively better performance in terms of plant height, number of leaves, and corn stem diameter, while the M3P2 treatment (15% + 200 g) on red onion plants showed better results for red onion plant height with an average growth of 6.3 cm. The most commonly found arthropods in the field were from the order Coleoptera, species Aderatus sinicus. Melastoma malabathricum has the potential to be an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, especially for long-term soil improvement and sustainable polyculture systems, but it cannot yet be recommended for widespread cultivation.
