This study aims to analyze public discourse surrounding the campaign “Abolish the Philosophy Department,” produced through Ferry Irwandi’s YouTube channel and debated by Ubermensch Project. The primary data consists of 1,345 YouTube comments, collected and examined using the Corpus-Assisted Discourse Studies (CADS) approach, framed by Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Michel Foucault’s theory of power. The analysis involved data cleaning, word frequency extraction, collocation, and concordance to identify dominant discursive patterns. Findings reveal a polarization of discourse between the pro group, supporting the abolition of philosophy departments based on utilitarian reasoning, and the contra group, emphasizing philosophy’s role as the foundation of critical thinking. Fairclough’s framework highlights the representation of philosophy as “irrelevant” versus “foundational,” discursive practices of reproduction and resistance within the comment section, and social practices reflecting ideological struggles between utilitarianism and critical humanism. Foucault’s perspective demonstrates mechanisms of power through the production of new truths, normalization of “usefulness” values, and public resistance against discursive domination.
