ANALISIS KOMPOSISI FLY ASH DAN BOTTOM ASH TERHADAP MUTU PAVING BLOCK

Nugraha, Septian Martha - Personal Name;

Coal-fired power plants generate large quantities of fly ash and bottom ash (FABA), which may pose environmental problems if not properly managed. In line with non-hazardous waste management policies and sustainable development principles, the utilization of FABA as construction material has become a promising alternative. This study aims to analyze the effect of fly ash and bottom ash composition on the quality of sustainable paving blocks. Fly ash was used as a partial replacement for cement, while bottom ash was utilized as a partial replacement for fine aggregate. Paving block specimens were produced with various mixture compositions and tested in accordance with SNI 03-0691-1996 standards. The experimental program included compressive strength, water absorption, resistance to sodium sulfate solution, and the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) test to evaluate the potential leaching of heavy metals. The results indicate that variations in FABA composition significantly affect the mechanical properties and durability of paving blocks. Partial substitution of fly ash at certain percentages improves microstructural density, resulting in reduced water absorption; however, excessive fly ash content tends to reduce compressive strength. The use of bottom ash influences mixture gradation and increases water absorption, yet still meets paving block quality requirements for specific classes according to SNI standards. TCLP test results confirm that FABA-based paving blocks comply with environmental threshold limits, indicating their suitability as sustainable construction materials. Keywords : fly ash, bottom ash, paving block, sustainable construction, TCLP.
