CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT UNTUK MENEKAN ANGKA KEJADIAN ACCIDENT DI SITE PT SEMESTA ALAM BARITO
Statistics on mining accidents resulting in serious injuries and fatalities in Indonesia show an upward trend every year, with a significant increase in 2022. In response, the Director General of Mineral and Coal Mining tightened safety regulations, stipulating that operational activities in a mining area must be suspended following a fatality until improvements are implemented. PT Semesta Alam Barito is a coal mining company operating in Central Kalimantan. The company plans to increase production by 66% in 2024 compared to 2023, despite a 68% increase in accidents in 2023. This study aims to evaluate accident occurrences, measure the implementation of mining safety, and determine comprehensive improvement strategies to reduce accidents. This study uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. These methods are conducted using research instruments in the form of questionnaires, interviews, observations, focus group discussions, documentation, and secondary data. These methods are in accordance with relevant technical regulations. They are used to evaluate accident occurrence, measure safety maturity levels, measure the implementation of Mineral and Coal Mining Safety Management System (SMKP Minerba), and analyze the causes of high accident rates. The analysis uses an Ishikawa diagram combined with SWOT analysis to determine holistic and sustainable improvements. The holistic, continuous improvement project recommended by the author and implemented in this study produced positive results in 2024. These results included an 8% increase in safety maturity level and an 8% increase in the SMKP audit score. Additionally, there was a 2% decrease in accidents, a 30% decrease in accident-related costs, and zero loss-time injuries or fatalities. Furthermore, coal production increased by 68%, and 101% of the annual production budget (RKAB) target was achieved.
