KANDUNGAN KADMIUM (CD) PADA AKAR DAN TAJUK TANAMAN SAWI PUTIH (BRASSICA RAPA PEKINENSIS L.) DI DESA TALANG PASAI PAGARALAM UTARA SUMATERA SELATAN
Cadmium (Cd) is a highly toxic heavy metal; therefore, its presence in the environment particularly in plants or vegetables consumed by humans poses serious health risks. Several factors are suspected to contribute to cadmium contamination in Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis), including environmental pollution and the plant’s physiological ability to absorb heavy metals. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the cadmium (Cd) content in the roots and shoots of Chinese cabbage and its relationship with soil chemical characteristics, namely pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and soil organic carbon (C-organic), in Chinese cabbage farmland. Soil and plant samples were collected using purposive sampling with five replications that were composited, and the sampling was conducted in July 2025. The results showed that the average cadmium content in Chinese cabbage roots was 0.478 ± 0.14 mg kg⁻¹, while in the shoots it was 0.830 ± 0.13 mg kg⁻¹, exceeding the maximum allowable limit according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI), which is 0.2 mg kg⁻¹. Furthermore, only a small proportion of soil chemical properties, such as pH, CEC, and organic carbon, significantly influenced Cd accumulation in the plant, suggesting that other factors may play a more dominant role in determining the availability of Cd.
