THE UTILIZATION OF CHATGPT IN DEVELOPING CREATIVE WRITING: THE CASE OF ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDENTS OF SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY
This research examines on how ChatGPT facilitates English education student among Sriwijaya university students in developing Creative Writing and to explore the challenges they encounter when using ChatGPT as a tool. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research involved the 6th and 8th semester of English Education students at Sriwijaya University with 53 open-ended questionnaire participants, followed by 4 selected semi-structured interviews participants. The collected data were analysed using thematic analysis. The finding show that ChatGPT developed Creative Writing for students in ideas generation, structure quality, improving textual flow and increasing students’ confidence and motivation. However, the study also found some challenges on using ChatGPT such as overreliance, concerns regarding of originality and authorship, mismatches responses, and ambiguity. The study concludes that ChatGPT can contribute positively to the development in university level when used critically and supported by clear pedagogical guidance.
