Damayanti, Triyana - Personal Name;

Insect species diversity is an important indicator of the stability of sustainable agricultural ecosystems. An effective conservation approach to improving the quality of insect habitat is thru the implementation of intercropping. The combination of plants from the Solanaceae, Gramineae, Cucurbitaceae, and Leguminosae families has been proven to increase the diversity of phytophagous insect species. The research aims to determine the diversity and population of phytophagous insect species with mandibulata and haustelata mouthparts in intercropped eggplant, long bean, cucumber, and corn plantings. This research was conducted using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 6 replications, totaling 24 ridges, at the Experimental Field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. Results In intercropping eggplant, long beans, cucumbers, and corn, 33 species were found. Trapping tools affect the number of species caught. There are 13 species of phytophagous insects found only in pan traps, and 2 species of phytophagous insects found only in pitfall traps. Meanwhile, 9 species were found in both traps, and 9 species were found thru direct observation. The dominant species in the intercropping of eggplant, long beans, cucumber, and corn are Acheta domesticus, Bothogonia Addita, Valanga nigrocornis, Tetrix subulata, Epilachna admirabilis, Aphis crraccivora, Spodoptera frugiperda, and Diaphania Indica. The species diversity index in the observation results is very diverse. The species diversity index for pan traps is moderate, with the index value falling within the category of 1 < H¹ < 3. Meanwhile, for pitfall traps and direct observation, the index is low, with the index value falling within the category of H¹ ≤ 1. This study concludes that the diversity and population of phytophagous insects found are highly varied. This is due to the cultivation being carried out using several plants. Key words: Pan Trap; Pitfall Trap, Intercropping, Phytophagous, Species diversity.
