KEANEKARAGAMAN DAN KELIMPAHAN BENTOS INFAUNA PADA PERAIRAN UPANG, BANYUASIN SUMATERA SELATAN
The Upang area, Banyuasin is one of the estuarine areas affected by residential activities, fisheries, plantations and transportation which is feared to cause changes in the quality of the aquatic environment. This study aims to examine the structure of the bentos infauna community and its relationship with water quality parameters in the Upang estuary, Banyuasin, which is vulnerable to environmental pressure. Sampling was carried out at four stations using Ekman grab and analyzed using ecological indices and PCAs. The results showed that the Diversity Index (H') at all stations was relatively low (0.1 – 0.23), indicating ecological pressure on bentos communities. The PCA analysis successfully explained 82.90% of the data variations, grouping the stations into two dominant patterns. Station 2 is characterized by a high Dominance Index (D) (0.92) and a Sand substrate, reflecting the presence of a strong environmental selection of certain species. In contrast, Station 3 has better Diversity (H') and Uniformity (E) values, Fine Mud substrate, and Slow Current, indicating relatively stable habitat conditions. It was concluded that differences in substrate characteristics (mud or sand) and hydrological dynamics (currents) are the main environmental factors that play a significant role in determining the structure of the bentos infauna community in the Upang Waters.
