UPAYA PT TEL DALAM DIPLOMASI IKLIM MELALUI INISIASI TEKNOLOGI BECCS (JOINT STUDY AGREEMENT) DI INDONESIA
Climate change is one of the issues that has become a global concern today. Climate change is a transboundary and multidimensional issue, which means that it cannot be resolved by a single country or a single actor alone. Consequently, this situation encourages the development ofclimate diplomacy, involving various actors, including multinational coyporations. This study aims to analyze the efforts ofPT Tanjungenim Lestari Pulp and Paper (PT TeLPP), as a subsidiary of Marubeni Corporation Japan, in implementing climate diplomacy through the initiation of Bioenergv with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) during the Joint Study Agreement (JS4) phase in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The data obtained by the author comesfrom interviews, literature studies, as well as document analysis and news related to the collaboration between PT TeL, JAPEX, and Pertamina. The analvtical framework in this study uses the concept of climate diplomacy developed by Herrera and Sherestha, which includes three main dimensions: Interaction Among Actors, Safeguarding Interest, and Influence in Global Governance. The results ofthis study indicate that although the initiation of BECCS is still at theprocess orpre-implementation stage, the Joint Study Agreement process already reflects climate diplomacy practices through interactions among state and nonstate actors, efforts to protect economic, political, environmental, and reputational interests, as well as the potential for forming influence in global climate change.
