EFEKTIVITAS TEKNIK ATP DALAM MENINGKATKAN OHI-S ANAK TUNANETRA DI SEKOLAH DASAR SLB-A PRPCN PALEMBANG
Blind children are a group of children who have limited vision or are totally blind. Blind children have obstacles in communication, limited learning media, and lack of teaching resources. A survey from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that blind children under 15 years of age have worse dental and oral health than normal children. This is because blind children have difficulty detecting and recognizing early signs of dental disease. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the ATP technique in improving the OHI-S of blind children at the SLB-A PRPCN Palembang elementary school. Method: The group of blind children was divided into 2 groups (those given ATP education and those not educated) then education and examination were carried out at visit 1, after 15 days and after 30 days then a comparison was made on the OHIS between groups. Results: The results showed that the average change in the OHI-S score in girls was greater, namely 46.7% compared to boys by 26.2%. Meanwhile, the average change in OHI-S scores in the age range of 7 to 10 years was almost the same as that of 11 to 15 years. The average change in OHI-S pre-test and post-test scores at the age of 7 to 10 years was 32.9, while at the age of 11 to 15 years was 38.6. Conclusion: The Audio Tactile Performance (ATP) technique is effective in improving the OHI-S (Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified) of visually impaired children at the SLB-A PRPCN Elementary School in Palembang. The average change in OHI-S scores among visually impaired children aged 11–15 years (38.6%) was greater than that of children aged 7–10 years (32.9%). The average change in OHI-S scores among girls (46.7%) was higher than that of boys (26.2%). Keywords:ATP, blind children, OHI-S.
