PENAMBAHAN ENZIM PAPAIN PADA PAKAN UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PERTUMBUHAN DAN EFISIENSI PAKAN IKAN SEPAT SIAM (TRICHOPODUS PECTORALIS)
Papain enzyme, a protease enzyme has been shown to increase feed efficiency and fish growth. Papain enzyme performance is influenced by several factors, one of them is enzyme concentration. The appropriate enzyme concentration or percentage will maximize the enzyme's performance. This research aimed to determine the best percentage of papain enzyme addition to feed to increase the growth and feed efficiency of snakeskin gouramy. The research was carried out at the Aquaculture Laboratory and Experimental Pond, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. Proximate analysis of feed was conducted at the Fish Nutrition Laboratory, Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB University. The research was conducted on May-June 2024. The experimental design used a completely randomized design consisting of five treatments and three replications. The treatments given were the addition of papain enzyme with different percentages in the feed, namely P0 (without papain), P1 (1.5%), P2 (2%), P3 (2.5%) and P4 (3%). Snakeskin gouramy measuring 5±0.5 cm were put into each aquarium with a density of 1 fish L-1 of water and they were reared for 30 days. During rearing period, fish fed three times a day. The results showed that the best percentage of papain enzyme addition to commercial feed for snakeskin gouramy was 2.5% (P3) which resulted in an absolute weight growth of 3.22 g, an absolute length growth of 1.04 cm, a protein efficiency ratio of 2.79, a feed efficiency of 93.80%, and a survival rate of 100%. Water quality values at P3 included a temperature of 27.1-29.4°C, a pH of 7.26-7.62, dissolved oxygen of 4.00-4.80 mg L-1 and ammonia of 0.052-0.140 mg L-1.
