EFEKTIVITAS PROBIOTIK SEBAGAI PENDAMPING TERAPI KALSIUM TERHADAP BONE MINERAL DENSITY PADA WANITA PASCAMENOPAUSE DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Osteoporosis is a major health concern in postmenopausal women, primarily due to estrogen deficiency which accelerates bone loss. Calcium supplementation has long been recommended as a standard therapy; however, its effectiveness in preventing bone mineral density (BMD) reduction remains limited. Probiotics have been suggested as a potential adjunct therapy through gut microbiota modulation, improved calcium absorption, and reduced bone resorption. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of probiotics as a companion therapy to calcium in improving BMD among postmenopausal women at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital, Palembang. Methods: This experimental study employed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial design involving 40 postmenopausal women. Participants were randomly assigned into two groups: calcium + probiotic (n=20) and calcium + placebo (n=20). The intervention lasted for 12 weeks. BMD was measured before and after intervention using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Data were analyzed with paired and independent t-tests, with significance set at p
