EKSPLOITASI SEKSUAL ANAK DAN REMAJA DALAM RUANG DIGITAL: ANALISIS KOMUNIKASI MANIPULATIF PADA PLATFORM GAME ROBLOX
This study examines forms of sexual exploitation against children and adolescents and manipulative communication practices occurring on the online gaming platform Roblox, as well as strategies for mitigation and prevention. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research draws on in-depth interviews with victims of online sexual exploitation. Data were analyzed through the lens of Interpersonal Deception Theory (IDT) to identify perpetrators’ communicative manipulation strategies across the stages of falsification, concealment, and equivocation. The findings reveal that sexual exploitation on Roblox develops gradually through a structured process. It begins with online grooming characterized by emotional bonding, virtual gift-giving, and identity deception. The interaction then escalates through the shift to private communication channels and the normalization of sexual content, eventually leading to intimidation and sexortion when victims resist. These manipulative practices exploit victims’ emotional vulnerabilities and are facilitated by the limited supervision inherent in digital gaming environments. This study concludes that online sexual exploitation is not an isolated or spontaneous act, but a sustained process of communicative manipulation. Effective responses should prioritize victim assistance and psychosocial recovery, while preventive efforts must focus on strengthening digital literacy, enhancing parental involvement, and increasing awareness of manipulative communication patterns within online gaming platforms.
