ANALISIS FENOMENA FOTO HASIL ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) DI PLATFORM TIKTOK MELALUI TEORI SIMULASI JEAN BAUDRILLARD

Vauzan, Nico - Personal Name;

This study examines the phenomenon of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Photo usage on the TikTok platform, which has generated new forms of visual representation while simultaneously having the potential to distort users’ understanding of reality. AI Photo enables the production of images that appear to document real experiences, even though they have no factual reference to events that actually occurred. Based on this condition, this study aims to understand how AI Photo operates as a process of simulation and how such images are interpreted and normalized within digital communication practices. This research employs Jean Baudrillard’s theory of simulation as its main analytical framework, particularly the concepts of simulation, simulacra, and hyperreality. The study adopts a qualitative descriptive approach using digital observation of AI Photo content on TikTok and interpretative analysis of visual elements, accompanying narratives, and audience responses in the comment sections. The findings indicate that AI Photo no longer functions as a representation of empirical reality, but rather as a form of visual simulation that stands as a symbolic reality in its own right. Simulacra emerge when images without real references are still treated as natural and meaningful in social interaction. This condition produces hyperreality, in which the boundary between the real and the artificial becomes blurred and authenticity is no longer a primary requirement for the validity of visual experience.
