EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK DAUN CERI (Muntingia calabura L.) SEBAGAI FUNGISIDA NABATI DALAM MENEKAN PERTUMBUHAN Colletotrichum capsici PATOGEN ANTRAKNOSA PADA CABAI

Ramandha, Erine Valentia - Personal Name;

Anthracnose disease is a major problem in chili plants, caused by the pathogen Colletotrichum capsici. Disease infection can result in losses of 5–65%, and symptoms are characterized by the appearance of small dark brown to black spots on the fruit surface. Farmers commonly use chemical control methods; however, excessive reliance on chemical pesticides poses risks of environmental contamination. Therefore, this study focuses on disease management using a botanical biofungicide derived from cherry leaf (Muntingia calabura) extract. This research employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of five treatments, one control, and four replications, resulting in a total of 24 petri dishes. The results showed that cherry leaf extract was able to suppress the growth of Colletotrichum capsici, with the best concentrations being 8%, 12%, and 16%, indicating its potential as a botanical biofungicide for controlling anthracnose disease. The effect of cherry leaf extract at 8%, 12%, and 16% was most prominent on the twentieth day, with mycelial diameters of 10.73 mm, 7.71 mm, and 7 mm, respectively, while inhibition percentages reached 88% and 91%. Microscopic observations revealed abnormal fungal hyphal growth, characterized by small, stunted, and shortened hyphae. Treatments with 8%, 12%, and 16% concentrations also suppressed spore development, with values of 3 × 10⁵, 1 × 10⁵, and 0 × 10⁶ spores, as well as reduced mycelial dry weight to 0.02 g and 0 g. In conclusion, cherry leaf extract can serve as a botanical biofungicide, with concentrations of 8%, 12%, and 16% effectively inhibiting the growth of Colletotrichum capsici in vitro. This inhibitory effect is presumably due to the activity of phenolic and flavonoid compounds. Further research is needed to conduct field trials using optimal concentrations to evaluate the potential of cherry leaf extract as a botanical biofungicide for managing anthracnose disease in chili plants.
