NYERI PADA PERAWATAN ORTODONTI DENGAN CLEAR ALIGNER DAN ORTODONTI CEKAT (Systematic Literature Review)
Background: Orthodontic treatment using clear aligners or fixed appliances often causes pain in patients. This pain may affect comfort and compliance during orthodontic therapy. Objective: This study aims to determine whether there is a difference in pain intensity among malocclusion patients undergoing treatment with clear aligners compared to fixed orthodontic appliances. Methods: This research is a systematic literature review of ten selected scientific journals that compare pain levels using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Articles were sourced from PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar, published between 2014 and 2023. Full-text articles meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria were assessed for bias using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme and summarized for demographic data. Results: This review included ten journals consisting of case-control and case-report studies, with eight showing low risk of bias and two showing high risk. All journals reported that clear aligners caused mild pain, while fixed appliances caused more severe pain. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in pain intensity between orthodontic treatment using clear aligners and fixed appliances. Keywords: orthodontic pain, clear aligner, fixed orthodontic appliance, visual analog scale
