MODEL PEMBELAJARAN LIVING LAB UNTUK MEWUJUDKAN KARAKTER SEMANGAT KEBANGSAAN DAN TANGGUNG JAWAB WARGA NEGARA (Studi Pengembangan pada Mata Kuliah Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan di Universitas Sriwijaya)
This study originates from the problem of how the civic education course as a compulsory subject in higher education curricula can be taught in a participatory manner, oriented toward real problem solving, and capable of internalizing character values by adapting the living lab concept in its learning model. This research examines the effectiveness of the living lab learning model in fostering the national spirit character and responsible character. The main objective of this study is to produce an effective learning model for civic education courses that can develop 21st-century skills. This study is a Research and Development (R&D) that follows the stages of the ADDIE model. The grand theory underlying this research is Experiential Learning. The study was conducted at Sriwijaya University. Data collection techniques included questionnaires, interviews, observations, tests, expert validation, focus group discussions, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s techniques, while quantitative analysis involved correlation tests, linear regression, and n-gain analysis to measure learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. The research results show that: (1) civic education courses are predominantly conducted using conventional learning models such as lectures combined with question and answer sessions. Although students’ character of national spirit and responsible character were relatively good, several indicators still require improvement. (2) The developed living lab learning model consists of four stages; Problem Discussions, Involving Several Stakeholders, Team Action, and Evaluation & Reflection abbreviated as PINTAR. (3) Expert validation results confirmed that the learning materials and the living lab learning model guidebook are valid and suitable for use. The implementation of this model in the experimental class demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ national spirit character and responsible character, with a higher n-gain score compared to the control class. Statistical analysis indicated a significant influence of the living lab learning model on students’ character development, contributing 47.6%. In conclusion, the living lab learning model in civic education courses has been proven effective in enhancing students’ national spirit character and responsible character
