PENGALAMAN IBU DALAM MENGHADAPI GERAKAN TUTUP MULUT (GTM) SELAMA MP-ASI PADA BAYI USIA 6-12 BULAN DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS CAMBAI KOTA PRABUMULIH

Rahmadani, Putri Dwi - Personal Name;

Mouth-Closing Movement (GTM) is a common feeding refusal behavior among infants aged 6–12 months during the complementary feeding period. This condition may disrupt adequate nutrient intake and affect mothers’ emotional well-being during feeding. This study aimed to explore mothers’ experiences in dealing with GTM in the working area of Cambai Public Health Center, Prabumulih City. A qualitative study with a phenomenological design was conducted involving six mothers of infants aged 6–12 months who had experienced or were experiencing GTM, supported by key and supporting informants, using in-depth interviews and interactive data analysis. The results showed that mothers’ emotional experiences when facing GTM during complementary feeding were largely dominated by negative emotions. Nevertheless, most mothers demonstrated a good understanding of appropriate strategies for managing GTM and proper complementary feeding practices. Feeding caregiving practices were influenced by cultural values and family habits. In dealing with this condition, most mothers received social support from their surrounding environment; however, only some mothers obtained direct information from health professionals regarding complementary feeding and GTM. Mothers applied various adaptive strategies to overcome GTM, which ultimately affected children’s growth and development. Overall, mothers’ experiences in managing GTM during the complementary feeding period represent a complex caregiving process involving multiple interactions between the mother, child, and environment. Strengthening education on responsive complementary feeding and family-based support is necessary to promote optimal feeding practices.Keywords : Mouth-Closing Movement (GTM), Complementary Feeding, Mothers’ Experiences, Responsive Feeding Practices, Family Support.
