PERTUMBUHAN VEGETATIF JAHE MERAH (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) TERHADAP PENGARUH KONSENTRASI DAN LAMA PERENDAMAN AIR KELAPA MUDA

Fadillah, Amalia Rahma - Personal Name;

Red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) is a high-value medicinal crop whose early growth is strongly influenced by rhizome quality and pre-planting treatments. One alternative to enhance early growth is the application of natural plant growth regulators through rhizome soaking using young coconut water. This study aimed to determine the effect of young coconut water concentration and soaking duration on the early growth of red ginger. The experiment was arranged in a 5×2 factorial randomized block design with three replications, resulting in 10 treatment combinations and 30 experimental units. The first factor was the concentration of young coconut water (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%), and the second factor was soaking duration (12 hours and 24 hours). Observed parameters included sprouting time, number of shoots, plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, fresh and dry shoot weight, fresh and dry root weight, fresh and dry rhizome weight, root length, leaf greenness index, shoot–root ratio, and soil pH. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of young coconut water affected the early growth of red ginger. A concentration of 50% produced the best response in enhancing vegetative growth, as indicated by faster shoot emergence, an increased number of leaves, and greater biomass of shoots, roots, and rhizomes. A soaking duration of 12 hours was more effective than 24 hours in improving most growth parameters. The interaction between 50% young coconut water concentration and a 12 hour soaking duration resulted in the most optimal growth response, particularly in accelerating shoot emergence, increasing the number of shoots, and enhancing root biomass. These findings indicate that appropriate concentration and soaking duration of young coconut water can enhance the early growth of red ginger. Keywords: plant growth regulator, red ginger, rhizome soaking, young coconut water
