STUDI SIFAT MEKANIK ALUMINIUM MATRIX KOMPOSIT DENGAN PENAMBAHAN SILICONE CARBIDE DAN RICE HUSK ASH

Aluminum matrix composite (AMC) is an engineering material developed to improve the mechanical properties of recycled aluminum through the addition of reinforcing particles. This study aims to analyze the effect of the addition of Silicon Carbide (SiC) at 3 wt% and Rice Husk Ash (RHA) at 2 wt%, 4 wt%, and 6 wt% on the hardness, impact toughness, and microstructure of aluminum scrap using the stir casting method. The fabrication process was carried out by stirring at high temperatures to obtain an even particle distribution. Mechanical testing included Rockwell hardness tests and Charpy impact tests, while microstructural characterization was carried out through macro and micro observations of the fracture surface. The results showed that the addition of SiC and RHA was able to significantly increase the hardness value of aluminum as the RHA fraction increased, but resulted in a decrease in impact toughness due to the increased brittle nature of the material. The microstructure showed a fairly homogeneous distribution of reinforcing particles with a narrowing of the matrix grain size. The combination of SiC and RHA has proven effective as an environmentally friendly reinforcement to improve the mechanical performance of recycled aluminum and has the potential to be applied to lightweight and wear-resistant engineering components.
