GAMBARAN SELF AWARENESS PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS DENGAN KOMPLIKASI DI PUSKESMAS INDRALAYA

Romadon, Tiara - Personal Name;

Diabetes mellitus has become a serious global health crisis, driven largely by rapid urbanization. Diets high in carbohydrates and fats have the potential to increase blood glucose levels, while excessive fat intake can reduce the effectiveness of insulin. Inadequate physical activity leads to unused glucose reserves in the body, resulting in elevated blood glucose levels. In addition, lifestyle changes and unhealthy dietary patterns may increase the risk of diabetes-related complications. This condition is often associated with low levels of self-awareness, which contribute to the development of further complications among patients with diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to describe the level of self-awareness among patients with diabetes mellitus with complications at the Indralaya Public Health Center. This study employed a quantitative research design using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a diabetes self-awareness questionnaire from 50 respondents with diabetes mellitus complications, characterized by age, sex, educational level, and family history of diabetes mellitus. The results showed that 8% of respondents had a high level of self-awareness, 78% had a moderate level, and 14% had a low level of self-awareness. The findings indicate that the overall level of self-awareness among patients with diabetes mellitus falls within the moderate category. Physical inactivity and unhealthy dietary patterns were identified as major risk factors for diabetes complications. Insufficient physical activity and frequent consumption of foods high in fat, sugar, and carbohydrates significantly increase the risk of diabetes-related complications. Self-awareness is a crucial component in diabetes management. Enhancing self-awareness through various strategies can assist individuals with diabetes in controlling their condition, improving adherence to treatment regimens, enhancing quality of life, and promoting self-management behaviors to prevent complications.
