ANALISIS HUBUNGAN PERSONAL HYGIENE CAREGIVER DENGAN KEJADIAN DIARE PADA BALITA DI KELURAHAN 16 ULU KOTA PALEMBANG

Khansa, Dwi Najla - Personal Name;

Diarrhea in toddlers remained one of the most significant public health concerns, as it affected children's health and interfered with their daily activities. One of the most important factors that was considered to influence the incidence of diarrhea was the personal hygiene practices of caregivers in their daily activities. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between caregiver personal hygiene and the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in Kelurahan 16 Ulu, Palembang City. This study used an analytical quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all caregivers who had toddlers, with a total sample of 92 respondents. Data were collected using questionnaires through interviews and were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between caregivers' handwashing habits and the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers (p-value = 0.013), caregivers' food management practices and the incidence of diarrhea (p-value = 0.017), and caregivers' child feces disposal practices and the incidence of diarrhea (p-value = 0.024). Meanwhile, caregivers' age (p-value = 0.649), caregivers' education level (p-value = 0.104), and caregivers' nail cleanliness (p-value = 0.374) did not show a significant relationship with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. The conclusion of this study indicated that the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in Kelurahan 16 Ulu, Palembang City, was associated with handwashing habits, food management practices, and child feces disposal practices. The limitations of this study included its focus solely on caregivers’ personal hygiene factors and the use of a cross-sectional design; therefore, the findings could not explain a direct cause-and-effect relationship. It was recommended that health workers provide continuous education on proper handwashing with soap, safe food management, and hygienic disposal of children's feces as preventive measures to reduce the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. Keywords : Toddlers diarrhea, caregiver personal hygiene, handwashing,food management practices, child feces disposal
