ANALISIS SORPTIVITY PADA MORTAR DENGAN PENAMBAHAN NANOSILIKA FLY ASH HASIL SINTESIS PRESIPITASI
Sorptivity is an important parameter in evaluating the durability of materials, as it is related to the ability of mortar to absorb water through capillary action. In this study, nanosilica was synthesized from fly ash waste using a precipitation method with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) solutions. The synthesized nanosilica was then used as a partial cement substitution in mortar mixtures. The nanosilica content varied at 0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12% by weight of cement. The results indicate that the addition of nanosilica effectively improves the microstructure of mortar through the filler effect and pozzolanic reaction, which produces additional calcium silicate hydrate (C–S–H) gel and reduces the porosity of the material. However, at higher nanosilica contents, the effectiveness in reducing sorptivity tends to decrease due to the potential agglomeration of nanosilica particles in the mortar mixture, resulting in non-uniform dispersion. This study demonstrates that nanosilica synthesized from fly ash using the precipitation method has strong potential as an environmentally friendly and economical alternative additive in mortar.
