PERTUMBUHAN DAN HASIL TANAMAN BAWANG MERAH (Allium ascolanicum L.) VARIETAS BIMA BREBES DENGAN BERBAGAI FREKUENSI PENYIRAMAN
Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) is a widely cultivated horticultural crop in Indonesia due to its high market demand. Water availability is a crucial factor influencing vegetative growth and bulb formation in shallots. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different watering frequencies on the growth and yield of Bima Brebes shallot variety. The experiment was conducted at plastic greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with one factor and four watering frequencies: P1 =watering twice a day, P2 = morning watering, P3 = afternoon watering, and P4 = watering every two days, four treatment levels were applied with three replications, and each treatment level consisted of 12 plants, resulting in a total of 48 polybags. The results showed that most growth and yield parameters were not significantly affected by watering frequency. However, significant effects were observed on plant height, leaf temperature, and soil temperature. Treatment P1 produced the highest plant height 37.88 cm at 7 and 8 weeks after planting, while P4 showed the lowest height during the early growth phase 10.89 cm at 1 week after planting. Leaf temperature was highest under P4 36.23°C and lowest under P0 26.14°C. A similar pattern was found for soil temperature, where P4 reached 41.72°C and P1 recorded 27.92°C. Meanwhile, in the tuber yield parameters, including fresh tuber weight, fresh biomass weight, air-dry weight, and dry biomass weight, the best results were obtained from the P1 treatment (watering twice a day). In general, the P1 treatment (watering twice a day) is able to create more stable environmental conditions due to the even availability of water in the planting medium, thereby consistently reducing leaf and soil temperatures and supporting more optimal plant physiological activity.
