EFIKASI KOMUNIKASI DALAM DISKUSI ANTARA SISWA SMA YANG MENGIKUTI KURSUS BAHASA INGGRIS DAN TIDAK

The learning process in high school requires students to actively communicate in class discussions; however, in reality, not all students have an adequate level of communication self-efficacy. Differences in learning experiences outside of school, such as participation in English courses, are suspected to also influence students' confidence in communicating. This study aims to determine whether there is a difference in the level of communication self-efficacy in discussions between high school students who attend English courses and those who do not. The research sample consisted of 108 students from SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya, who were divided into two groups based on participation in English courses. Communication self-efficacy was measured through six aspects: discussion skills, courage to express opinions, discussion ethics, collaboration, adaptive attitude, and conflict management. The data were analyzed descriptively (score distribution, mean, and standard deviation) and inferentially using the Mann–Whitney U Test. The results of the study showed that students who took an English course had significantly higher communication self-efficacy in discussions compared to students who did not take the course (p < 0.000). These findings indicate that participation in an English course positively contributes to students' confidence in their oral communication abilities during class discussions.
