DETERMINAN SOSIAL EKONOMI PETANI KECIL DALAM MENGGUNAKAN COMBINE HARVESTER DI DESA JATI MULYA II KABUPATEN OGAN KOMERING ULU TIMUR
Rice is a major food commodity that serves as the economic backbone for the community in South Sumatra, including East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. In an effort to improve harvest efficiency and reduce yield losses, the use of mechanization technology such as the combine harvester has been implemented as an alternative to conventional harvesting methods. A combine harvester is a machine that integrates cutting, threshing, and cleaning processes into a single operation. This study focuses on the socio-economic factors influencing the decision of smallholder farmers to adopt this technology. The objectives of this study were (1) To identify the socio-economic factors affecting smallholder farmers' decisions to use combine harvesters in Jati Mulya II Village; and (2) To compare the income levels between farmers who use and those who do not use combine harvesters. The study was conducted in Jati Mulya II Village, Madang Suku II Sub-District, East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. Data collection was carried out in November 2025. The research method used was a survey method. The sample size was determined using the stratified random sampling method, involving 51 samples divided into strata of user and non-user farmers. Data analysis methods included binary logistic regression to determine the determinants of technology adoption and the Independent Samples t-test to compare farming income. The results of the study showed that the variables of land area and tribe or ethnicity had a positive and significant effect on small farmers' decisions to use combine harvesters, while the variables of age, education level, and farming experience did not have a significant positive effect. Income of smallholder farmers in Jati Mulya II Village showed a significant difference between the two groups. The average income of farmers using combine harvesters IDR23.890.00/hectare/ planting season, which was significantly higher than the average income of non- users at IDR16.060.877/hectare/planting season. This difference is mainly due to the large production results obtained by farmers using combine harvesters due to reduced crop losses, even though the production costs incurred are relatively greater than those of non-user farmers.
