PEMETAAN KERENTANAN DIARE PADA BALITA BERDASARKAN WASH RESOURCE INDEX (WRI) DAN FAKTOR LINGKUNGAN DI INDONESIA : ANALISIS DATA SKI TAHUN 2023
Diarrhea remains one of the major public health problems among young children. Globally, diarrhea accounts for about 9% of child deaths, with more than 440,000 deaths each year. In Indonesia, the prevalence of diarrhea among young children based on the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) was 4.9% based on health worker diagnoses and increased to 7.4% when using diagnostic criteria or symptoms. This figure shows that diarrhea in infants remains a significant problem with uneven distribution across regions. This study aims to map the vulnerability of infants to diarrhea in Indonesia based on the WASH Resource Index (WRI) and environmental factors using data from the 2023 SKI. This study used an ecological study design with provincial-level analysis units. The WRI was formed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), which integrated indicators of drinking water, sanitation, and hand washing facilities. Other environmental factors analyzed included waste management, house floor conditions, and population density. Data analysis was performed using univariate, bivariate, and spatial methods. The results of this study show variations in the prevalence of diarrhea among infants between provinces. Provinces with low WRI scores tend to have higher prevalence of diarrhea among infants. Inadequate waste management, poor housing floor conditions, and high population density are associated with increased vulnerability to diarrhea among infants. Spatial analysis showed areas with high vulnerability due to a combination of WASH and environmental factors. This study concluded that vulnerability to diarrhea in children is influenced by an accumulation of various environmental factors. WRI-based mapping and environmental factors can be used as a basis for determining priorities for public health interventions in Indonesia.
