MAKNA SELOKO ADAT DALAM UPACARA PERNIKAHAN KHAS JAMBI OLEH GENERASI Z (Studi di Kecamatan Muara Bulian Provinsi Jambi)
This study aims to describe and analyze the construction of the meaning of the traditional seloko in traditional Jambi wedding ceremonies among Generation Z in Muara Bulian Subdistrict. This phenomenon is influenced by the currents of modernization, which view the traditional seloko as a mere symbolic formality. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological strategy and is analyzed using Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann's Social Constructionism theory, which encompasses the processes of internalization, objectivation, and externalization. The results show that: (1) At the internalization stage, Generation Z interprets the traditional seloko as a symbol of cultural identity and a sacred element in marriage, although understanding its figurative language remains a obstacle. (2) At the objectivation stage, the traditional seloko has been institutionalized as a social reality and cultural identity, with traditional leaders playing a role in legitimizing the tradition. (3) At the externalization stage, Generation Z continues to use the traditional seloko in wedding ceremonies as a form of cultural preservation, although some stages have been simplified to be more efficient and relevant to the current context. Based on the research findings, the traditional Seloko has not lost its significance in the modern era, but has shifted in meaning to become a more flexible and contextual cultural identity for Generation Z.
