KONFLIK ANTARA MASYARAKAT DAN PEMULUNG DI TPS LIAR KAWASAN EKA JAYA KOTA JAMBI
This study was motivated by the conflict between local residents and waste pickers at an illegal temporary waste disposal site (TPS) in the Eka Jaya area of Jambi City, arising from differing interests in the use of waste and the surrounding environment. Residents seek a clean and comfortable living environment, while waste pickers depend on recyclable waste collection as their primary source of income. This study aimed to analyze the stages of conflict using Simon Fisher’s conflict theory, which consists of context, attitudes, behavior, and contradiction. A qualitative method with a case study approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that the conflict originated from unpleasant odors, waste accumulation, and waste pickers’ activities of sorting through garbage. These conditions generated negative attitudes among residents, leading to complaints and verbal warnings, as well as contradictions between the economic needs of waste pickers and residents’ desire for a cleaner environment. The study concludes that the conflict developed gradually and dynamically due to differences in interests within the same social setting.
