IMPLEMENTASI PESTISIDA NABATI DENGAN PUPUK ORGANIK BRIKET BERBASIS KOMBINASI VERNONIA CINEREA DAN CANGKANG TELUR PADA POLIKULTUR JAGUNG DAN BAWANG MERAH.

Sitorus, Timothy Raphael - Personal Name;

Modern agriculture faces challenges in maintaining sustainable productivity due to the intensive use of inorganic fertilizers and synthetic pesticides. The use of Vernonia cinerea as a botanical pesticide and eggshells as organic fertilizer briquettes is one potential approach to enhance plant growth while maintaining the balance of the arthropod ecosystem in a polyculture system. This study aims to analyze the impact of a polyculture system of corn (Zea mays L.) and red onion (Allium ascalonicum L.) on arthropod diversity, determine the optimal dosage of organic fertilizer briquettes made from eggshells and the botanical pesticide Vernonia cinerea, and evaluate the effectiveness of various types of arthropod traps in capturing different insect groups. Additionally, this study assesses the role of the combination of briquette-shaped organic fertilizer and botanical pesticides in maintaining the stability of the arthropod community in polyculture cultivation systems. This research was conducted at the Agricultural Training Center, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The experiment used a split-plot design with a combination of two doses of briquette-shaped organic fertilizer (100 g and 200 g per plant) and four concentrations of botanical pesticides (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%). Arthropod sampling was conducted using yellow sticky traps, sweep nets, pan traps, pitfall traps, methyl eugenol traps, and light traps. The results showed that the polyculture system and the application of briquette-shaped organic fertilizer combined with plant-based pesticides were able to increase plant growth while maintaining the stability of the arthropod community, with a Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H') of 2.67 (high), a uniformity index (E) of 0.81, and a dominance index (C) of 0.09 (low). A total of 27 arthropod species were identified from 2,867 individuals, comprising phytophagous, predatory, decomposer, and pollinator groups. Dominant species belonged to the order Diptera. The main dominant species were Bactrocera dorsalis (497 individuals) and Bactrocera carambolae (476 individuals) from the order Diptera, followed by Pheidole megacephala (248 individuals) and Formica dolosa (223 individuals) from the order Hymenoptera. The treatment of 200 g briquette fertilizer combined with 15% botanical pesticide provided optimal growth in corn in terms of plant height and stem diameter. Overall, the use of Vernonia cinerea organic briquette fertilizer and botanical pesticides has been shown to have the potential to support sustainable agricultural practices while maintaining the balance of the arthropod ecosystem.
