PENGARUH METODE BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT TELL-PLAY-DO MENGGUNAKAN GAME SMARTPHONE DENTIST TERHADAP KECEMASAN DENTAL ANAK
Background: Dental anxiety is a primary barrier in pediatric dental care that causes treatment refusal and poor oral health. The Tell-Play-Do (TPD) method using a smartphone dentist game is a modification of conventional behavior management that potentially reduces anxiety through interactive education and distraction. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of the TPD behavior management method using a smartphone dentist game on dental anxiety in children. Methods: This was a quasi experimental study with a before, during, and after test control group design involving 32 children aged 6-12 years who were selected through a purposive sampling technique. The subjects were divided into a Tell-Play-Do (TPD) group and a Tell-Show-Do (TSD) group as the control group. Anxiety levels were measured using physiological parameters of heart rate (HR) via a pulse oximeter and psychological scores of the Facial Image Scale (FIS). Results: The TPD group demonstrates a decrease in mean HR (103.81 to 89.25 bpm; 14.03% reduction) and FIS scores (3.06 to 1.25). The TSD group shows a decrease in mean HR (90.25 to 78.94 bpm; 11.32% reduction) and FIS scores (2.81 to 1.44). Physiologically, the TPD method shows a greater effect on anxiety reduction, while psychologically both groups show equivalent results. Conclusion: The Tell-Play-Do method using a smartphone dentist game is effective in reducing dental anxiety in children during dental treatment.
