HUBUNGAN ANTARA TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN ORANG TUA TERHADAP KARIES PADA ANAK TUNADAKSA DI SLB D YPAC KOTA PALEMBANG
Background: Parental knowledge plays an important role in maintainingoral health of children with physical disabilities who have motor limitations anddepend on parents for dental care. Objective: To analyze the relationship betweenparents’ level of knowledge and dental caries in children with physical disabilitiesat SLB D YPAC Palembang City. Methods: A descriptive-analytical quantitativestudy with a cross-sectional approach involving 20 children with physical disabilities and 20 parents (purposive sampling). Data were collected viaaknowledge questionnaire and caries examination using DMF-T and def-t indices. Statistical analysis used the Spearman Rank test. Results: Most parents hadgoodknowledge (80%). The DMF-T index was predominantly in the low category (35%) and 80% of respondents had very low def-t scores. There was no significant relationship between parental knowledge and DMF-T (r=0.302; p=0.196) or def-t (r=0.062; p=0.795). Conclusion: There was no significant relationship betweenparents’ level of knowledge and dental caries in children with physical disabilitiesat SLB D YPAC Palembang City. Dental caries is multifactorial, requiring amorecomprehensive intervention approach.
