PENGARUH JUMLAH TANDAN KOSONG SEBAGAI MULSA PADA PIRINGAN POHON TERHADAP PERTUMBUHUAN DAN HASIL KELAPA SAWIT (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)
This study aimed to determine the effect of applying oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) mulch at different rates per palm on the growth and yield of oil palm. The research was conducted at the agricultural cultivation research field of University Sriwijaya, located in Indralaya Utara, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, on 15 years old oil palm plantations. The geographical coordinates of the study site were 3°13′11.1″ S and 104°38′22.4″ E. The study was conducted from August to November 2023. The experiment used a single factor Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) consisting of five treatment levels, namely the application of EFB mulch at rates of 0 bunch (control), 8 bunches, 16 bunches, 24 bunches, and 32 bunches per tree. Each treatment was replicated four times, resulting in a total of 20 experimental units. The observed variables included EFB mulch decomposition, soil moisture content, fresh fruit bunch (FFB) weight, spear leaves, drooping fronds, number of abortion flowers, number of male flowers, and number of female flowers abortion inflorescences, male inflorescences, and female inflorescences. Application EFB were on circle of crops stem results showed that the application of EFB mulch was able to maintain soil moisture during the dry season. The results indicated that the treatments had a significant effect on EFB mulch decomposition rate, soil moisture, and fresh fruit bunch (FFB) weight. However, the treatments did not significantly affect the number of spear leaves, the number of lanceolate fronds, abortion inflorescences, male inflorescences, and female inflorescences. Keywords: dry season, empty fruit bunches, mulch, oil palm, soil moisture
