AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN DAN ANTIBAKTERI METABOLIT SEKUNDER DARI RIMPANG LENGKUAS MERAH (Alpinia purpurata Vieill. K. Schum.) SERTA PROFIL KIMIA FRAKSI AKTIFNYA
Red galangal (Alpinia purpurata) is a species of the Zingiberaceae family that has potential as a source of bioactive compounds. The main objectives of this study were to identify secondary metabolites from red galangal rhizomes (A. purpurata) and to determine their antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Red galangal rhizomes were extracted and then separated to obtain fractions. The extracts and fractions were tested for antioxidant activity using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil) method, while the antibacterial activity was tested against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The results showed that the extract was inactive in antioxidant activity with an IC50 >1000 μg/mL, while fraction F4 had strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 of 78.376 μg/mL. The results of the antibacterial activity test of the extract against E. coli and S. aureus bacteria were in the weak category with inhibition zones of 40.73% and 27.74%, respectively. The antibacterial fractions inhibited the growth of E. coli with a moderate category in F3 at around 50.67% and F6 at around 52.24%,, while all fractions were in the weak category in inhibiting the growth of S. aureus bacteria. The second separation fraction (F4.B) was identified using LC-MS/MS with tentative compounds being benzopyran with a fit confidence of 98.31% and β-D-glucopyranoside, 2-hydroxy-5-methoxyphenyl with a fit confidence of 63.53%. The results obtained differ from those in the literature, possibly influenced by environmental conditions and plant age.
